The World Border Organization - BORDERPOL® is a 21st Century global border security body dedicated to making international borders smarter and safer. Recognizing the need for the establishment of a global home to over 1000 border related services WBO-BORDERPOL was officially registered in March 2003 as a non profit international association with Headquarters in Ottawa, Canada. It's primary mission is to represent the interests of and to facilitate co-operation among progressive national border services and related agencies in order to establish and operate border systems that effectively protect and efficiently connect the international community.
What the World Border Organization - Borderpol Does
The mission of Borderpol is to provide members and observers with technical support in border security and border management matters. The technical support takes five essential forms:
1. Establishment of a global border security forum to provide members with important information on related border security matters
2. Providing operational expertise to members dealing with border security matters and assisting a member when asked to do so
3. Offering training and development programs to prevent and combat trans national crime
4. Developing and promoting complementary initiatives to existing programs to fight drug trafficking, terrorism, Internet crime, financial crime, organized crime and human trafficking
5. Working with existing organizations to develop more effective and efficient border management standards and screening programs to facilitate legitimate travel and commerce across international borders.
What the WBO - Borderpol Does Not Do
Borderpol functions by means of contacts between National border service agencies. The Technical Committee while comprised of experts from academia, migration, customs, international organizations and industry, it does not deal with individual cases or with matters of private citizens.
Borderpol does not dispatch agents to foreign countries to investigate border crimes or arrest illegal migrants or criminals. Arrests and investigations are matters exclusive to national border and law enforcement authorities.
Borderpol does not deal with local crimes, but is concerned only with border security and management issues that involve its members.
Borderpol does not engage in monitoring or observing individuals or businesses. It does not request information about individuals. Information is supplied to Borderpol by the border services and law enforcement authorities of members or observers are on the initiative of those agencies.
Borderpol will never intervene in any activities of any jurisdiction or member that is of a political, religious, military or racial character.
Conclusion
The purpose of Borderpol is sometimes misunderstood within the international law enforcement community. This is because Borderpol complements rather than competes with existing legacy international bodies and approaches border security matters in a uniquely holistic manner.
Hence Borderpol provides a valuable service to the border security and related law enforcement agencies dealing with issues that have a trans border dimension as well providing fusion programs for the development of new concepts and technologies to reduce delays and congestion at borders for legitimate travelers and commerce.
